Cedarwood essential oil​ is extracted from the wood pieces of a cedar tree. There are four species of cedar trees, which are all considered to be timber evergreen conifers belonging to the plant genus known as Cedrus.

Cedarwood oil is obtained via the process of steam distillation from the wood pieces of the cedar wood tree, of which there are several species, such as Cedrus atlantica, Cedrus deodara, Juniperus mexicana, and Juniperus virginiana, which are more commonly recognized as Atlas, Himalayan, Texan, and Virginian Cedarwood, respectively.

Essential oils have small molecules. After they penetrate into the blood circulation, they can also penetrate into the amniotic fluid through the placenta and be absorbed by the fetus. At the same time, they are metabolized by the mother. The role of essential oils will indeed affect the fetus and mother.
