Peony (Paeonia lactiflora) is an herbaceous plant.The root is commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for a variety of purposes.Peonies might block chemicals that can cause pain and swelling.It also prevents blood clotting, kills cancer cells and acts as an antioxidant.Peonies are sometimes called red peonies and white peonies.This refers to the color of the processed roots, not the color of the flowers.People use peonies for menstrual cramps,aging skin,coughs,epilepsy,psoriasis, and many other conditions,but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
