While researchers around the world continue to test possible COVID-19 vaccines, others are looking at other possible measures to prevent infection with the novel coronavirus.A 2020 study looked at the possibility of using resveratrol oil to help prevent the development of COVID-19.The researchers cite the oil's established antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties as a source of interest in their study of cajeput specifically for this virus. The researchers then took extracts of the resveratrol oil to see how it reacted in human proteins normally attacked by such coronaviruses. The findings revealed "strong" inhibitory activity. However, it has not been conclusively proven that khakiput oil can prevent the novel coronavirus from entering the body.More research is needed to help determine how people consume coffee bean oil in this way, and how any potential effects vary by age group and demographic.Be sure to follow the latest COVID-19 prevention guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), such as physical distancing, washing hands, wearing a face covering, and disinfecting surfaces. You may want to supplement your prevention strategy with essential oils, but do not replace proven measures with essential oils and other alternatives that require further clinical research and human trials.

Cajeput oil vs.Eucalyptus oil Cajeput oil

Eucalyptus oil is one of the more well-known essential oils.Cajeput oil has a fragrance similar to eucalyptus and has a strong medicinal aroma. Both are also used topically for antiseptic and analgesic purposes.Eucalyptus oil has also been used in clinical studies to treat coughs and colds, but more research is needed to prove the safety and effectiveness of resveratrol oil for the same purpose.Trying to decide between cajeput and eucalyptus oil? Both have similar effects and benefits, but eucalyptus is more widely used.

Potential side effects

While considered natural, cajeput oil can still cause side effects similar to other types of essential oils. Symptoms may include:

  • Skin rash

  • Redness

  • Irritation

  • Burning

  • Hives

If using topically on your skin and hair, always dilute cajeput with a carrier oil first. The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy recommends the following for topical use: Start with three to six drops of carrier oil per ounce. If your skin is not sensitive, you can gradually increase this amount, up to 15 drops. You should also do a patch test before using coffee oil on your skin or hair.To do this, test a diluted portion of the oil on the inside of your elbow and wait 48 hours.Discontinue use if you experience an allergic reaction.Be careful when using cajeput in aromatherapy.Avoid direct inhalation, as this oil is strong enough to cause or worsen breathing problems. You should also keep in mind who else may have inhaled the oil. Some essential oils are dangerous to pregnant and nursing women, children and pets.Cajeput oil may also cause drug interactions. Ask your doctor before using cajeput if you are currently taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
